The United States Central Command announced on Thursday that it had conducted airstrikes against Houthi targets in Yemen in recent hours. According to a statement from the Central Command, “US Central Command forces conducted four self-defense strikes against seven Houthi anti-ship cruise missiles and a mobile anti-ship ballistic missile launcher that were poised for launch towards the Red Sea.”
Additionally, “within this timeframe, US Central Command forces also downed a one-way attack Unmanned Aerial System (UAS) in self-defense.”
The statement further detailed that “US Central Command forces identified the missiles, launch platforms, and the drone originating from Houthi-controlled areas in Yemen and determined they posed an imminent threat to US Navy ships and commercial vessels in the region.”
Subsequently, “US Central Command forces struck and destroyed the missiles, launch platforms, and the drone in self-defense,” emphasizing that “these actions will protect freedom of navigation and make international waters safer and more secure for US Navy and commercial vessels.”
