A Hamas official stated on Tuesday that the United States has set a two-week deadline for negotiations to secure a ceasefire in Gaza, warning that they will withdraw if no solution is reached.
The official noted that Israel has raised its demands in the ceasefire talks, setting new conditions without any pressure from the US, according to the Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Hamas leader Sami Abu Zuhri mentioned on Monday that US President Joe Biden recently acknowledged that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is responsible for stalling ceasefire efforts in Gaza.
Abu Zuhri described Biden’s comments as an American admission that Netanyahu is undermining the efforts to achieve a truce.
Abu Zuhri emphasised that Hamas is open to any proposal for a permanent ceasefire and the complete withdrawal of Israeli forces.
Netanyahu, however, insists that the military operation in Gaza is the best way to secure the freedom of hostages, and he demands that Israeli forces remain in two areas of Gaza as part of any agreement.
On Monday, Netanyahu reiterated his refusal to agree to withdraw from one of these areas.
