The Senate on Tuesday passed a $95.3 billion aid package for Ukraine, Israel and Taiwan following a monthslong debate that has divided members of the Republican party.

Senators voted 70-29 to advance the package, though its future remains uncertain as House Speaker Mike Johnson made clear Monday night that he cares little for the Senate bill. Twenty-two Senate Republicans voted in favor of the package, including Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell.

The package contains no changes regarding the southern border as it faced some resistance from Republicans, who said they wouldn’t back further aid to Ukraine unless it’s amended to include border policy changes.

Soon after the package cleared the Senate, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said he was “grateful” for Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer and McConnell along with the other Senators who “supported continued assistance to Ukraine.”

“For us in Ukraine, continued US assistance helps to save human lives from Russian terror,” Zelenskyy said in a post on X. “It means that life will continue in our cities and will triumph over war.”
