US President Joe Biden’s administration has introduced a groundbreaking executive order, revealed on Wednesday, with the primary objective of safeguarding American personal data.

The order focuses on curtailing the transfer of such data to countries like China and Russia, citing significant national security concerns.

Senior US officials disclosed that the executive order, initially reported by Reuters, will specifically target bulk transfers of Americans’ geolocation, biometric, health, and financial information.

Data brokers and other entities involved in these transfers will face restrictions when dealing with designated “countries of concern.”

This strategic move comes as part of a broader effort by the Biden administration to fortify protections around sensitive information and mitigate potential risks associated with data transfers to nations deemed to pose national security threats.

The executive order reflects a proactive approach to safeguarding critical personal data from unauthorized access or use by foreign entities.
