US President Joe Biden has appointed Penny Pritzker as the Special Representative for Ukraine’s Economic Recovery. Pritzker brings extensive experience as a former trade minister and a deep familial connection to Ukraine, as her family emigrated from Ukraine to the United States in the nineteenth century.
In announcing the appointment, US President Biden emphasized Pritzker’s qualifications and the importance of her role. She will leverage her expertise to collaborate with Ukrainian authorities, US allies and partners, International Financial Institutions, and the private sector to spearhead efforts aimed at rebuilding Ukraine’s economy. This includes mobilizing both public and private investments, establishing donor priorities, and working to reopen export markets and businesses that were affected by the destructive actions of Russian attacks.
Pritzker’s role extends to working closely with international partners involved with Ukraine, including through the G7 coordination platform, to ensure that collective actions reinforce and complement each other. Her responsibilities also encompass assisting the Ukrainian government in implementing the necessary reforms to strengthen the country’s economy and facilitating Ukraine’s recovery process to ensure it emerges even stronger.
President Biden reiterated the United States’ unwavering commitment to supporting Ukraine in defending its freedom, acknowledging the resilience and determination of the Ukrainian people.
“The brave people of Ukraine have inspired the world with their resilience and determination, and as this statement confirms, the United States remains committed to stand by them for as long as necessary,” President Biden affirmed.
Penny Pritzker’s appointment underscores the United States’ dedication to aiding Ukraine’s economic recovery and reinforcing its partnership with the nation during challenging times.
