The United States have constructed the first humanoid robot spanning 70,000 square meters in Salem, Oregon, just south of Portland.
It is the world’s first of its kind.
An estimated 10,000 Digit robots are set to roll out of the factory each year in the United States.
This ambitious goal has been set by the US robotics company, Agility Robotics.
The factory won’t be used to produce Ford Model Ts but rather two-legged robots called Digit.
Digit, a versatile and autonomous robot, can perform tasks previously designated for humans, such as carrying a box to place it on a shelf.
However, Amazon emphasizes that the robot is “not intended to replace” its employees but rather to “assist” them.
Such robot production naturally raises questions about human employment. In June 2023, Amazon had 750,000 robots within its workforce.
According to the company, they will enable employees to “liberate themselves” from their tasks so they can focus on “interactions with customers.”
