The US Central Command (Centcom) neutralised four unmanned vessels operated by Yemen’s Houthis, known as the Ansar Allah movement, citing an “imminent threat,” according to a military statement released on Monday.
The command reported on X that within the last 24 hours, USCENTCOM forces had effectively destroyed these Iranian-backed Houthi uncrewed surface vessels in the Red Sea.
These vessels were a direct threat to the US, coalition forces, and commercial ships in the area.
Following Houthi threats last fall to target vessels linked to Israel unless it ceased military operations in Gaza, the United States established an international coalition, including the UK, to secure maritime routes in the Red Sea and engage Houthi forces on land.
The White House National Security Council affirmed that the US did not participate, coordinate, or assist with the Israeli airstrikes on Iran-backed Houthis in Yemen.
The Israeli Defense Forces reported that their fighter jets targeted Houthi “military targets” in Al Hudaydah Port, Yemen, in response to numerous recent attacks on Israel.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu emphasized Israel’s resolve to defend itself and warned that enemies seeking to harm Israel would face severe consequences.
A Houthi spokesman claimed on social media that Israel’s attack targeted fuel storage and a power plant in Hodeidah, and these actions would not halt their support for Gaza.
