The United States launched airstrikes against a Houthi missile site in Yemen on Saturday, after the rebels attacked a British tanker in the Gulf of Aden, according to the U.S. military.
The strikes targeted a Houthi missile launcher that was poised to launch a missile at U.S. warships in the region, the U.S. Central Command said.
The Houthi rebels claimed responsibility for the attack on the British tanker, the Marlin Luanda, which was carrying oil from Saudi Arabia to Singapore. The tanker was hit by a missile and caught fire, but there were no reports of casualties.
The Houthi rebels have been targeting shipping in the Red Sea since November, saying they are targeting ships linked to Israel in support of Palestinians in Gaza.
The United States and Britain have conducted joint airstrikes against Houthi targets in Yemen, but the rebels have vowed to continue their attacks.
