The United States military announced on Thursday that it successfully neutralized an anti-ship ballistic missile launched from a Houthi-controlled area in Yemen.
In a statement released by the US Central Command, the military detailed, “At approximately 1:00 PM (Sanaa time) on April 11th, American forces engaged and destroyed an anti-ship ballistic missile that was launched over the Red Sea from territories under Houthi control in Yemen.”
The statement further clarified that there were no reports of injuries or damage to US, coalition, or commercial vessels as a result of the missile interception.
It was determined that the missile posed an imminent threat to the United States, coalition forces, and commercial ships operating in the region.
“This action was taken to protect the freedom of navigation and to ensure the international waters remain safer and more secure for American, coalition, and commercial ships,” the statement concluded.
This decisive action underscores the commitment of the US and its allies to maintaining security in strategic maritime corridors and deterring aggression in international waters.
