Pentagon Press Secretary Air Force Brig. Gen. Pat Ryder has voiced concerns regarding a potential widening of Israeli attacks on Gaza.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, he emphasized the significance of conducting military operations in adherence to the law of war, particularly highlighting the imperative of protecting civilians to minimize the risk of casualties.

Ryder stated, “And then part of that also is talking about the importance of conducting operations in accordance with the law of war, most notably, the protection of civilians. So in order to, you know, minimize the potential for civilian casualties.”

Expressing concern for the lives of innocent civilians, whether Palestinian or Israeli, Ryder underscored the commitment of the U.S. government to humanitarian efforts. He mentioned ongoing endeavors to provide aid to Gaza and reiterated the call for Israeli counterparts to adhere to the laws of war.

This statement from the Pentagon Press Secretary reflects the broader international concern about the ongoing conflict in the region and the impact it has on civilian populations.

Calls for the protection of civilians and adherence to international humanitarian laws are crucial aspects of diplomatic efforts to address the situation and bring about a peaceful resolution.

Decades of repression and conflict, and an Israel-imposed blockade on the Gaza Strip, Palestine, from 2007, exploded on 7 October 2023 as Hamas attacked Israel on a large scale. In response, Israel has launched massive attacks on Gaza. The conflict has resulted in thousands of deaths.

In Gaza, hospitals and other health facilities have been damaged. It is often too dangerous for people to seek medical care.

Israel is now imposing a siege on Gaza, with no electricity, food, water or medical items available for the Strip’s residents. We are urging for an immediate cessation of indiscriminate bloodshed.
