U.S. Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin visited the USS Gerald R. Ford aircraft carrier in the eastern Mediterranean on Thursday, according to Al-Ahram.
In a press conference on Wednesday, Austin said that efforts by Egypt and Qatar helped to secure the release of prisoners from the Gaza Strip.
Austin also said that U.S. support for the Al-Udeid Air Base in Qatar will “support our forces for years to come.”
Austin also said that Houthi attacks have already impacted the global economy.The visit by Austin is a sign of the U.S.’s commitment to security in the Middle East.
