Syria has been grappling with severe thunderstorms and unstable weather conditions across its regions for several days, resulting in loss of life, destruction of property, and power outages in various areas.
Reports indicate that the adverse weather has claimed the lives of two individuals, one in the western countryside of Deir ez-Zor and another in Suwayda Governorate, with an additional person injured. In Idlib, a child sustained injuries after a wall collapsed during the storm.
The impact of the storm extended to the central regions, where falling trees caused material damage in the Hama countryside, particularly affecting cars and solar panels, which serve as a primary source of electrical energy in the city and its surroundings. Similarly, trees fell in neighborhoods of Damascus and its countryside, resulting in further material damage.
The General Electricity Company of Aleppo announced the shutdown of the industrial city of Sheikh Najjar due to disruptions in high-tension lines caused by the adverse weather. Concerns have arisen regarding the potential impact of the storm on strategic crops such as wheat and barley, particularly if heavy dust and sand accompany the current weather conditions.
Last Thursday, Damascus experienced a sudden and intense storm that claimed the life of a young doctor after a tree fell in Tishreen Public Park, where he was present with his mother.
