The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) has emphasized the urgent need to end violence against children in Gaza, pointing out that there is no “safe place” for them in the region.
According to a statement reported by the Palestinian News Agency (WAFA) on Tuesday, screens around the world are once again filled with images of children being killed and burned, as families try to escape from bombed shelters. UNICEF urged the international community to immediately end the horrific violence against children in Gaza.
Ongoing Israeli military operations in Gaza, which have been classified as genocide by Palestinian authorities, have led to over 140,000 casualties, including both deaths and injuries. More than 10,000 individuals remain missing amid widespread destruction and famine, which has claimed the lives of many children and elderly people.
The humanitarian crisis in Gaza has reached catastrophic levels, with much of the civilian infrastructure destroyed and access to basic needs severely limited. Since the start of the conflict in 2023, tens of thousands of Palestinians have been killed or injured, and over 1.7 million people are currently displaced, living in shelters provided by UNRWA and other organizations. Health services are under immense pressure, with only a few clinics operational, and food shortages have resulted in widespread hunger, particularly affecting children and the elderly.
Efforts to deliver humanitarian aid face major obstacles, including restrictions on crossing points and ongoing hostilities. Aid agencies are calling for urgent action to increase access to Gaza and ensure the safety of civilians, as the situation continues to deteriorate, leaving the region on the brink of further disaster.
The UN continues to call for a ceasefire and a political solution to the crisis, emphasizing that international humanitarian law must be respected to ensure the protection of civilians, especially children, who are disproportionately affected by the conflict.
