The United Nations Security Council convened an emergency meeting this Sunday afternoon in response to Israel’s request to condemn the Iranian attack on its territory and designate the Iranian Revolutionary Guard as a terrorist organization.
In a statement on the “X” platform, Gilad Erdan, Israel’s Permanent Representative to the UN, emphasized the Iranian attack as a serious threat to global peace and security, anticipating decisive action from the council against Iran.
The presidency of the UN Security Council announced that the emergency meeting is scheduled for Sunday at 4:00 p.m. Eastern Time.
UN Secretary-General António Guterres condemned the Iranian attack on Israel, calling for restraint and an immediate halt to hostilities.
Guterres expressed deep concern over the real danger posed by escalating tensions in the region, urging all parties to exercise maximum restraint to avoid any action that could lead to major military confrontations across multiple fronts in the Middle East.
