UN Reports 67% Decline in Aid Access to Gaza

The United Nations announced today that the volume of humanitarian aid entering the Gaza Strip has plummeted by 67% since Israel closed the Rafah border crossing on May 7th.

In a press conference on Wednesday, UN spokesperson Stéphane Dujarric revealed that this significant reduction in aid flow is primarily due to the closure of the Rafah crossing, which borders Egypt.

Dujarric emphasized that Israeli airstrikes continue to intensify, exacerbating the humanitarian crisis.

He reported that health services and other critical infrastructures are shutting down one by one, with displacement from ongoing attacks further hindering resource distribution.

Currently, only one hospital in Rafah remains partially operational. Despite the dire circumstances, the United Nations and its partners are striving to provide assistance.

On Tuesday, the Gaza Health Ministry announced that all hospitals in Rafah, except a specialized maternity hospital, have ceased operations due to the ongoing Israeli ground offensive that began on May 6th.

Since the Israeli offensive on Gaza started on October 7th, more than 117,000 Palestinians have been killed or injured, with the majority being children and women.

Additionally, around 10,000 individuals are missing amidst widespread destruction and famine that has claimed the lives of many children and elderly.

Israel’s military actions in Gaza persist despite the International Court of Justice’s orders to immediately halt the ground offensive in Rafah (south) and implement measures to prevent acts of “genocide” and improve the dire humanitarian situation in the region.
