Ajith Sanjay, Head of the United Nations Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights in Palestine, emphasized the need for the international community to support the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) and provide the necessary funding to aid Palestinians.
In an exclusive statement to (Cairo News Channel) on Saturday, Sanjay highlighted that the situation in Gaza has reached a catastrophic level. Civilians are struggling daily to meet their basic humanitarian needs, including life-saving necessities such as food, water, and medical aid, amidst ongoing, brutal Israeli bombardment across the entire Gaza Strip.
Sanjay stressed that the living conditions for Palestinians are dire, pointing out that 1.7 million people are crowded into the Mawasi area, facing the spread of sewage and a shortage of sanitation supplies. He noted that Israeli forces are preventing Human Rights Commission staff from accessing northern Gaza to provide aid to civilians.
He also pointed out that more than 10,000 Palestinians are detained in Israeli prisons, facing severe human rights violations, including mistreatment, beatings, humiliation, and torture by Israeli forces. He stated that the occupying state is blocking all international and human rights organizations from accessing these prisons, emphasizing the urgent need for the International Committee of the Red Cross to reach the detainees.
He called on the entire world to exert more efforts to pressure Israel to agree to an immediate ceasefire, aiming to end the suffering of Palestinians and achieve security and stability in the region.
