Inas Hamdan, the Acting Media Director for UNRWA’s Field Office in Gaza, described the situation in Gaza as catastrophic, particularly in the education sector. She emphasized that the Israeli war on Gaza primarily targets children and students.
Hamdan stated that the Israeli occupation forces’ strategy aims not only to erase Palestinian identity and annihilate the Palestinian people through genocide but also to prevent them from receiving education. This approach is intended to create a generation incapable of defending their homeland and reclaiming their land.
She highlighted that Israeli occupation forces violate all international and humanitarian laws that prohibit targeting schools, educational institutions, and hospitals during conflicts. The war has deprived approximately 600,000 students of completing their current academic year.
Hamdan noted that most schools in Gaza need rebuilding and rehabilitation, which will create significant pressure on the return of students to schools. She warned that the war on Gaza will result in a generation facing an uncertain future.
