David Kurten, the leader of the UK’s “Heritage Party,” has openly criticised Prime Minister Keir Starmer’s decision to allocate £600 million to Ukraine.
Kurten expressed his disapproval on the social media platform X, stating, “Foreign Secretary David Lammy has promised £600 million (equivalent to winter fuel payments for three million retirees) to the Zelenskyy regime to prolong and escalate an unnecessary war with Russia. Starmer’s regime is appalling.”
Lammy announced the funding yesterday during his visit to Kyiv, noting that he would discuss with the Prime Minister the potential authorization for Kyiv to use British long-range missiles to target deep inside Russian territory.
This week, British MPs in Parliament supported the government’s controversial plans to cut millions of retirees from essential benefits needed for winter heating bills, due to a multi-billion-dollar budget deficit.
Several British users responded to Kurten’s post with comments highlighting domestic concerns.
One user remarked, “They lavish £600 million to heat others while we choose between food and heating—to eat or to heat.” Another commented, “We are not the priority,” and a third noted, “There seems to be plenty of money to waste on failed projects.”
US Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin confirmed on Friday that President Joe Biden will announce a new security aid package for Ukraine valued at $250 million.
During a speech at Ramstein Air Base in western Germany, where international supporters of Ukraine gathered, Austin stated that the U.S. President will also bolster all forms of support to ensure Ukraine meets its needs.
“If Ukraine is not free, the world will not be safe,” Austin declared, according to BBC coverage.
