Ukraine has requested 812 additional Vector reconnaissance drones from German firm Quantum-Systems GmbH, according to a report by Der Spiegel.
Last week, Quantum-Systems CEO Florian Seibel visited Ukraine alongside German Vice Chancellor and Minister for Economic Affairs and Climate Action, Robert Habeck, during which Kiev submitted a formal request for the drones to a special unit of the German Defense Ministry dedicated to Ukrainian affairs.
Recently, on April 19, Quantum-Systems announced the opening of a new drone production and development facility in Ukraine, planning an investment of up to six million euros over two years.
This new facility joins an existing service center in Ukraine that offers training, maintenance, and logistics for drones.
Since May 2022, Quantum-Systems has delivered over 210 Vector drones to Kiev, with about a third being destroyed.
The company aims to deliver more than 500 drones by the end of this year and hopes to boost production capacity to 1,000 drones annually.
The Vector drone is noted for its vertical takeoff and landing capabilities, quiet engine, and secure video transmission, as reported by Ukraine’s Economic Pravda.
Founded in 2015 and based in Munich, Germany, Quantum Systems also has offices in the United States, Australia, and Ukraine.
Jens Stoltenberg, the head of NATO, emphasized that Ukraine still has the opportunity to overcome Russia’s aggression, provided that NATO allies fulfill their promises of increased weapon deliveries.
Stoltenberg, speaking during a visit to Berlin, highlighted the recent approval by the US Congress of a substantial support package for Ukraine, along with fresh pledges from countries such as Britain, Germany, and the Netherlands.
