The UK called on North Korea on Wednesday to end talks over the sale of arms to Russia.
This came as North Korean leader Kim Jong Un and Russian President Vladimir Putin met for a rare summit.
“We urge the DPRK to cease its arms negotiations with Russia and to abide by public commitments Pyongyang has made not to sell arms to Russia,” UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak’s spokesperson told reporters.
He added that the visit highlighted Russia’s isolation on the global stage.
“As the world unites against Putin’s illegal invasion of Ukraine he has been forced to turn to regimes such as North Korea,” the UK official concluded.
Putin said there are “possibilities” for military cooperation between the two countries.
On his part, Kim affirmed: “We will always support the decisions of President Putin and… we will be together in the fight against imperialism”
“Russia is currently engaged in a just fight against hegemonic forces to defend its sovereign rights, security, and interests,” he said.
“The Democratic People’s Republic of Korea has always expressed its full and unconditional support for all measures taken by the Russian government.”
The leaders did not discuss the risk of nuclear war, according to a Kremlin spokesman.
