During a diplomatic visit to Kyiv, British Defence Minister Grant Shapps engaged in discussions with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy, focusing on ways to enhance Ukraine’s air defense capabilities.
This visit marked Shapps’ first to the Ukrainian capital since assuming his role as defense secretary last month. The United Kingdom has maintained steadfast support for Ukraine since the onset of Russia’s full-scale invasion in February 2022.
In response to the British support, President Zelenskiy expressed his gratitude, stating, “On behalf of the whole nation, I thank you for everything you are doing for us. We are grateful for your help – military, financial, humanitarian. We greatly appreciate that we can rely on you.”
The discussions also revolved around the cooperation between Kyiv and London in the defense sector. President Zelenskiy highlighted the positive impact of this collaboration, emphasizing that it has allowed Ukraine to significantly enhance its battlefield capabilities, particularly in terms of long-range weaponry.
This meeting underscores the enduring partnership between the United Kingdom and Ukraine, particularly in the context of Ukraine’s ongoing efforts to bolster its defense infrastructure and deter external threats.
