The UK has announced new sanctions targeting Israeli extremist groups and individuals linked to settler violence in the West Bank.
The Foreign Secretary revealed that the sanctions cover two groups and four individuals involved in inciting and carrying out violence against Palestinian communities.
This decision follows a significant increase in such incidents, with over 800 reported by the UN since last October.
Among those sanctioned are Hilltop Youth, a radical nationalist youth group known for setting up illegal outposts with the aim of removing Palestinians from the Occupied Territories, and Lehava, which is known for its violence against Arab and Palestinian communities.
Additionally, the sanctions target four individuals directly linked to severe human rights violations.
These individuals include Noam Federman, a former Kach party leader known for training settlers in violent tactics; Neria Ben Pazi, noted for building illegal outposts and participating in violent acts; Eden Levi, documented for his role in assaults and intimidation of Palestinians; and Elisha Yered, an unofficial spokesperson for Hilltop Youth, known for his inflammatory and violent rhetoric.
The Foreign Secretary, Lord Cameron, emphasized that these extremist settlers compromise security, stability, and peace prospects.
He stated that the UK would continue to take action, including imposing further sanctions if necessary. The sanctions impose financial and travel restrictions on the named groups and individuals.
The UNRWA Commissioner-General Philippe Lazzarini has warned of the worsening conditions in the West Bank, including refugee camps.
Lazzarini stated on the X platform that the recent operation carried out by Israeli forces in Nur Shams camp “caused loss of life and significant damage to homes and public services.”
He continued, saying that hundreds, including at least 112 Palestinian children, have been killed in the West Bank since the outbreak of the Gaza war on October 7.
