The United Kingdom, alongside other countries, has expressed significant concern regarding the escalation of settler violence and the displacement of Palestinian communities in the West Bank. The British Foreign Office announced on the social media platform “X” that representatives from the UK, Spain, Italy, Belgium, Denmark, Sweden, France, Canada, the European Union, and the Netherlands visited the Palestinian communities in the “Al-Khan Al-Ahmar” and “Al-Muarrajat” areas. This visit comes in response to the disturbing increase in violence by extremist settlers and instances of forced displacement, according to a report by the Palestinian News Agency “WAFA.”
The delegation, with additional support from Germany, Ireland, and Finland, released a statement expressing deep concern over the heightened and growing levels of settler violence. They emphasized the urgency for Israel to adopt stringent measures to prevent settler violence and hold perpetrators accountable, as well as to provide protection for Palestinian communities.
Recent reports indicate that settlers have escalated their attacks on villages in the West Bank, coinciding with increased activities of land bulldozing and armed land takeovers. Israeli estimates suggest that over 720,000 settlers currently reside in the occupied West Bank, including East Jerusalem. The Israeli military has also expanded its operations in the area, contributing to a rise in assaults on Palestinians and their property, resulting in 718 Palestinian deaths and approximately 5,750 injuries, as per official Palestinian sources.
