The UAE has emphasized its commitment to involving all relevant stakeholders, including civil society, women, youth, and religious leaders, in its efforts to immunize society against extremism and the scourge of terrorism.

It calls for vigilance in the face of increasing terrorist threats, including by building on the momentum generated by the United Nations’ strategy to combat terrorism and the High-Level Week on Counter-Terrorism. Through international collaboration, we can uproot the roots of extremism, eliminate terrorism, and build a better future where our people can enjoy stability and prosperity.

In a statement to the General Assembly on the UN Global Counter-Terrorism Strategy, the UAE highlighted that terrorism is a global and complex phenomenon that transcends borders, cultures, and religions. Combating it requires a multi-faceted, multi-dimensional approach that can respond to the sophisticated methods employed by terrorist groups and even anticipate them.

The statement, delivered by Salem Al-Zaabi, Advisor to the Minister of Foreign Affairs, further explained, “We see the biennial review of the UN Global Counter-Terrorism Strategy as of utmost importance. It provides an opportunity to assess the progress made in its implementation and to update it in line with existing and emerging terrorist threats.”

Al-Zaabi added, “The past years have demonstrated the magnitude of the challenges associated with combating international terrorism. The hands of terrorists have reached new technologies and information technology, turning them into tools for recruitment, fundraising, and carrying out increasingly complex, deadly, and dangerous attacks.” He pointed out the use of drones, virtual assets, encrypted digital currencies, and 3D printing by terrorist groups, highlighting their exploitation of information technology, social media platforms, and electronic gaming platforms to spread their destructive ideologies.

As the UAE warns of the growing terrorist threats, it reaffirms its commitment to working collaboratively and proactively to counter this global menace. The statement underlines the need for ongoing assessment and adaptation of strategies to effectively combat terrorism in an ever-evolving landscape shaped by advancements in technology and the methods employed by terrorist organizations.
