The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has urged the international community to uphold the sanctity of religious symbols and sacred texts while renewing their commitment to global principles of tolerance and peaceful coexistence.
The UAE’s permanent mission to the United Nations commended the Moroccan mission to the UN for adopting a unanimous resolution aimed at enhancing dialogue between religions and cultures to combat the spread of hatred, an initiative which the UAE actively supported.
Furthermore, the UAE emphasized the importance of respecting religious symbols and sacred books to prevent polarization and incitement.
The international community was encouraged to reaffirm its dedication to global principles of tolerance and peaceful coexistence.
Recently, the UN General Assembly unanimously embraced a new resolution presented by Morocco entitled “Promoting Dialogue among Religions and Cultures and Fostering Tolerance in the Face of Hate Speech.”
In response to recent acts in Europe that resulted in harm to Muslims, the European Union also expressed its firm rejection of any form of incitement to religious hatred and intolerance.
Josep Borrell, the EU’s High Representative for Foreign Affairs, stated in a released statement, “Respecting diversity is a core value of the European Union, and this includes respecting other religious denominations.”
