UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan has ordered an emergency relief package of $30 million to assist displaced Lebanese citizens in Syria.
The UAE will also send six more humanitarian aid flights to Lebanon.
This initiative reflects the UAE’s ongoing efforts to support the Lebanese people in facing their current difficulties, highlighting its strong commitment to providing help during challenging times.
Lebanese Prime Minister Najib Mikati expressed his gratitude for the UAE’s urgent $100 million relief package provided to the Lebanese people.
Mikati commended the UAE’s unwavering support for Lebanon during all circumstances.
In response, Sheikh Mohamed reiterated the UAE’s commitment to Lebanon’s unity, sovereignty, and territorial integrity, emphasizing the importance of international efforts to halt hostilities and protect civilians in line with international law.
The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) announced that more than half a million people have been displaced within Lebanon, while another 285,000 have fled the country.
According to the International Organization for Migration (IOM), at least 541,527 individuals had been displaced internally as of last Thursday, with nearly 285,000 leaving Lebanon since September 23, 40% of whom are Lebanese.
Reports indicate that about 40,000 Lebanese have fled, along with 10,000 Syrians, most crossing into Syria by land.
Filippo Grandi, the UN High Commissioner for Refugees, highlighted the severe crisis Lebanon faces due to ongoing Israeli air raids.
The Lebanese Ministry of Public Health’s Emergency Operations Center reported that the Israeli aggression has resulted in 2,036 fatalities and 9,653 injuries from October 8 to Friday, September 4.
