As the Sudanese crisis persists, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) has stepped up to enact a significant humanitarian role. The UAE has been instrumental in offering vital medical and humanitarian aid to Sudanese refugees, escaping the internal strife between the Sudanese Army and rapid support forces.

To this end, the UAE launched an aid operation to the city of Amdjarass in Chad, airlifting food supplies facilitated by the Emirates Red Crescent (ERC), the Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan Charitable and Humanitarian Foundation, and the Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan Foundation for Humanitarian Works. Representatives from the host nation’s humanitarian agencies warmly received the aid, in collaboration with the UAE’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Dr. Ahmed Obaid Al Dhaheri, Head of the ERC delegation in Chad, highlighted that their team in Amdjarass is actively distributing this aid to the Sudanese refugees and the local Chadian community. This is in strict adherence to the UAE leadership’s directives to extend assistance to those in dire need.

Dr. Al Dhaheri further emphasized, in his media statements, that their charity team in Amdjarass has carefully evaluated the nutritional and humanitarian requirements of the Sudanese refugees, ensuring these needs are met to lessen their hardships owing to the unstable situation back home.

Concurrently, the UAE-constructed field hospital in Amdjarass continues to deliver medical care and treatment for Sudanese refugees in Chad. The Emirati field hospital, extending its services to the neediest segments, including patients, children, the elderly, and women among the Sudanese and the local populace, has been a beacon of hope.

Since its inauguration on the 9th of July, the hospital has attended to 1,744 medical cases, inclusive of 173 orthopedic instances, 225 surgical conditions, and 1,346 internal medicine cases, and has carried out 11 operations.

The hospital’s establishment aligns with the UAE’s commitment to providing humanitarian, relief, and medical support to the Sudanese affected by the harsh humanitarian conditions resulting from the conflict that has plagued their country since early April. Furthermore, it substantiates the UAE’s support for Chad, in a bid to alleviate the repercussions of the humanitarian crisis due to the massive influx of Sudanese refugees triggered by the precarious conditions in Sudan.
