Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan reiterated that the unity of Libya and the stability of its people stand as top priorities for his country.
This affirmation came during Erdogan’s reception of the Governor of the Libyan Central Bank (CBL), Sadık Kabir, as reported by Anadolu Agency.
According to the Turkish Presidency’s Communication Department, President Erdogan welcomed the Libyan Central Bank Governor at the historic Vahdettin Pavilion in Istanbul.
Erdogan underscored Turkey’s ongoing efforts to facilitate a sustainable and enduring political solution in Libya.
The meeting primarily aimed at assessing the economic, financial, and political situation in Libya, particularly the challenges facing the Central Bank amidst governmental divisions.
Discussions during the meeting delved into the Central Bank’s role in maintaining the financial sustainability of the state and enhancing mutual cooperation in the banking sector.
Kabir, also known as Sadık the Great, had recently participated in the Spring Meetings of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank held in Washington, D.C. During these sessions, he engaged in a series of discussions with international financial and banking entities.
On April 18, Sadık the Great met with his Turkish counterpart, Fahrettin Karaahan, to explore avenues for bolstering banking cooperation and exchanging expertise in various economic and financial domains between the two nations.
Additionally, Sadık the Great convened with the President of the Turkish Banking Regulation and Supervision Agency, Şahab Kavcıoğlu, in Istanbul.
The focus of this meeting was to address the issue of guarantees provided to Libyan agencies executing development projects with Turkish companies, as per a statement issued by the Central Bank in January.
Turkey’s proactive involvement in Libya’s economic and financial spheres underscores its commitment to supporting stability and prosperity in the region.
Erdogan’s reaffirmation of this commitment signals Turkey’s sustained engagement in the African country’s journey towards peace and development.
