Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan discussed the “serious situation” in Gaza and ways to enhance humanitarian aid to the area, currently under siege by Israel, with his Egyptian counterpart, Sameh Shoukry.
In a joint press conference in Istanbul on Saturday with Shoukry, Fidan stated, “We discussed further actions we can undertake to deliver humanitarian aid to Gaza, and what can be done in the long term to achieve a two-state solution.”
Addressing the tension between Iran and Israel, the Turkish Foreign Minister emphasized, “Our primary priority must be to end the Israeli occupation of Palestinian territories and to establish a two-state solution.”
He added, “We warn of the negative consequences of the escalation between Israel and Iran. The world must act to grant Palestinians their rights.”
From his side, the Egyptian Foreign Minister expressed concern about the current escalation in the region and called on both parties to exercise restraint.
Shoukry warned, “The war in Gaza could lead to the expansion of conflict in the region. We demand that problems be solved through dialogue.”
He also mentioned that Cairo would host a Turkish delegation in preparation for the upcoming visit of President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi to Turkey in the near future.
