On Wednesday, Tunisia’s Transport Minister, Rabie Al Majidi, confirmed that significant progress has been made in discussions with Egypt regarding the development of a direct sea route between the two nations.
Al-Majidi highlighted the coinciding national celebrations in Egypt (National Day, July 23, 1952) and Tunisia (Republic Day, July 25, 1957) as a testament to the convergence between the two peoples, even in their celebrations and national occasions.
In an exclusive statement to the Middle East Agency (MENA), the Tunisian Minister expressed his delight in joining the Egyptian populace in their National Day celebrations. He also extended his best wishes for Egypt’s future prosperity and advancement.
When addressing the aspect of bilateral cooperation within the transport sector, Al-Majidi indicated that there is ongoing coordination between the two countries aimed at augmenting their collaborative efforts. He particularly highlighted advanced discussions with Egypt to establish a direct maritime link that would bolster trade and investment relations.
The Tunisian Minister further accentuated Tunisia’s receptiveness to all forms of initiatives and actions intended to enhance the partnership, irrespective of whether they originated from the public or private sector. He assured that full support and assistance would be extended to all investors interested in the transport sector.
He elaborated on ongoing initiatives to set up logistics zones and facilitate cargo transport and handling. These topics, he indicated, are subject to detailed discussions between technical teams in Egypt and Tunisia and are expected to culminate in meaningful agreements in the near future.
The Minister also mentioned ongoing negotiations with Egypt concerning the civil aviation sector, with specific reference to coordinating with airlines to regain previous levels of air traffic between the two countries.
