Tunisian authorities have officially declared the upcoming launch of a commercial sea line connecting its ports with those of Libya in the east, as well as Spain and Morocco in the west.

This vital route for import and export operations is slated to commence operations in March.

According to Tunis Afrique Presse, the economic landscape in Sfax, particularly in the export and supply sector, is poised to strengthen with the introduction of a regular sea line.

This line will facilitate the transportation of containers from the commercial port of Sfax to Morocco, Spain, and Libya.

The agency quoted Malek Al-Alawi, the approved maritime agent for the line, stating that all administrative and logistical arrangements are in their final stages. The official inauguration of this sea line is set to take place in March. Notably, the line offers competitive prices and stands out for the brief duration of the ship’s journey to reach these destinations, with two flights available per month departing from Sfax.

In February 2023, Libyan authorities reinstated the sea line between Tunisia and Libya, which had been inactive for 11 years. The revived line included the Al-Shaab marine station for passenger transportation and marked the first sea route between the Al-Shaab station in Tripoli and the Zarzis region in southern Tunisia.

It is worth mentioning that the trade exchange volume between the two nations experienced a positive development of 10.8% between 2022 and 2023, surging from $972 million to $1,077 million.
