A “Sputnik” correspondent reported that the Syrian army eliminated 22 militants, most of whom were of various foreign nationalities, during fierce clashes with its units stationed in the western countryside of Aleppo, in the north of the country. The “Sputnik” correspondent in Aleppo stated that the militants of the “Red Brigades” faction launched a violent attack at dawn on Sunday on army positions at the “Qabtan al-Jabal” area axis in the western countryside of Aleppo, turning the field scene into fierce clashes along the contact line in the region.

Information from field sources available to “Sputnik” indicates that the Syrian army brought in large military reinforcements to the operation axis concurrently with the escalation of clashes, amid intensive artillery and missile shelling targeting the militants’ rear supply lines in the area.

The available information confirms that no less than 22 militants from the “Red Brigades” were killed by the Syrian army’s gunfire, the vast majority of whom were of foreign nationalities. Additionally, 4 SUVs equipped with heavy machine guns were destroyed.

After the attack was thwarted, the control map in the area did not witness any change. The “Red Brigades” groups are considered the striking arm and elite forces of the “Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham” organization, which “Jabhat al-Nusra” uses as a front in Idlib. The militants are distinguished by wearing red bands (“red ribbons”) on their heads.

The “Red Brigades” were established by the terrorist, Abu al-Yaqzan al-Masri, when he was a “legitimate prince” in “Jabhat al-Nusra,” before reports emerged about his disappearance from Syria in 2022.

The “Brigades” received specialized training from experts of the “Battle Tactics” group, founded by the terrorist (Abu Rafiq the Uzbek), before leadership was transferred to Abu Salman the Belarusian, who was killed in 2017.

The “Red Brigades” are notorious for the bloodthirstiness of their terrorists, committing brutal massacres against civilians in the areas they entered during the years of the war in Syria, as well as against Syrian soldiers taken prisoner.

In December of last year, “Jabhat al-Nusra” established a new terrorist organization specializing in carrying out infiltration and assassination operations
