As fighting continues in Sudan, the Minister of Health and Social Care in the Darfur region, Babiker Hamidin, has warned of a potential shortage of medicines and medical supplies in the region, if aid does not arrive soon. He explained that the security situation is unstable and unpredictable.
Hamidin stated, “One of the biggest problems we face in South Darfur state is securing medical supplies and drugs, so we are working with international organizations and the Sudanese Ministry of Health to ensure the speedy delivery of medical aid,” according to the Arab World News Agency.
He added, “The security situation in South Darfur state is unstable and unpredictable, and there are intermittent clashes between the Sudanese army and the Rapid Support Forces in the vicinity of neighborhoods and residential areas, which negatively impacts the performance of state institutions and public facilities.”
In terms of the delivery of food and medical aid, the Minister of Health and Social Care in the Darfur region spoke about the arrival of “medical and food aid in the past weeks, with the help of the joint force established by the governor of the state, to ensure the arrival of trucks carrying food and medical aid.”
However, he also warned that the current state of health stability is “temporary and can collapse at any moment if the security situation deteriorates or if aid does not arrive on time.”
On Sunday, the Sudanese Doctors’ Union stated that 70% of hospitals near conflict areas between the army and the Rapid Support Forces have stopped providing services.
