In a significant development, the Sudanese Foreign Ministry has vehemently condemned the destructive actions of the Rapid Support Militia, a rebel group, responsible for the demolition of the Shambat Bridge.
The bridge, an essential link between the cities of Omdurman and Bahri across the Nile River, was targeted on Saturday in a desperate attempt by the militia to halt the advance of the Sudanese Armed Forces, supported by the Sudanese populace.
In a statement released on Saturday, the Foreign Ministry denounced the act as a terrorist crime. It appealed to the international community to censure these heinous acts, which are part of a series of similar crimes committed by the militia.
The ministry emphasized the need to hold the Rapid Support Militia and its state backers accountable for supplying the group with weapons used in civilian destruction and devastation.
The statement further asserted that a time would come when the identities of these state backers would be revealed. Sudan reserves the right to demand appropriate compensation for the destruction and devastation inflicted.
The ministry highlighted that the rebel militia, in a heinous strategy of systematic destruction against the Sudanese state, had carried out the attack on the Shambat Bridge early on Saturday.
This strategy, according to the ministry, follows the militia’s failure to seize power by force and its subsequent defeat in combat.
Furthermore, the ministry noted that prior to this incident, there had been the destruction and arson of several strategic economic institutions, public utilities, universities, hospitals, cultural, and religious centers in the capital and other states.
Among the recent atrocities was an attempt last week to set fire to the Khartoum Refinery.
This act of aggression marks a significant escalation in the ongoing conflict in Sudan, highlighting the need for international attention and intervention to address the rising tide of violence and instability in the region.
