The official spokesperson for the Sudanese Army, Nabil Abdullah, on Thursday denied the accusations made by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) that the army targeted civilians and committed violations against them. He affirmed that “the armed forces are committed to the laws of international warfare.”

Abdullah said in media remarks,” “These are all baseless accusations with no truth to them. The Sudanese Armed Forces are well aware of and fully understand how to engage according to the rules of engagement and targeting rules stipulated in the armed forces law and international humanitarian law.”

The army spokesperson confirmed that the military deals with “legitimate military targets” where there are camps and positions of the Rapid Support Forces.

The RSF had accused the Sudanese Air Force of bombing the city of Kabkabiya in North Darfur, resulting in “homes being destroyed over the heads of their inhabitants,” and also accused the army of bombing the El Geili petroleum refinery in North Khartoum Bahri and completely destroying it.

However, the official spokesperson for the army emphasized that the armed forces “have never targeted any civilian objectives” since the onset of the ongoing war for over a year.

He pointed out that the army “knows how to determine its targets in battle, distinguishing well between civilian and military targets, and it has never happened during this war that civilian targets were attacked.”
