A coalition of Sudanese factions, describing themselves as the Armed Struggle Forces and Popular Resistance supporting the Armed Forces in Darfur, announced on Sunday that they have abandoned neutrality “to preserve Sudan from plans of division and fragmentation.”

In a statement published by the Sudan Liberation Army on its Facebook page today, the coalition supporting the armed forces in Darfur region stated, “We have devised a plan to reclaim cities controlled by the Rapid Support Forces… and mapped out a political strategy to engage with community leaders and popular resistance for general mobilization.”

The participants affirmed their commitment “to stand side by side with the armed forces, the national institution, and legitimate state institutions to prevent the collapse of the Sudanese state through both civil and military actions.”

The statement, issued after the three-day “Merowe Forum for Darfur Issues,” plans continued communication with foreign missions and human rights organizations “to expose the crimes of the Rapid Support Forces,” accusing them of using foreign mercenaries from neighboring African and Arab countries for combat and receiving support from countries “aimed at dismantling Sudan.”

The coalition also emphasized efforts to enhance collaboration among armed struggle movements towards future unity.

Additionally, the statement stressed the necessity of transitioning to a civilian democratic regime “after defeating the Rapid Support Forces.”

The statement explained that this move comes as part of “national and ethical responsibilities due to the country’s suffering from the rebellion of the Rapid Support Forces, led by international and regional parties using militias and their mercenaries from neighboring countries and their internal political arms” in a power grab and hijacking the country under the guise of slogans of democratic transition and civilian government.
