Sudan’s Foreign Ministry welcomed the African Union’s Peace and Security Council statement, describing its directives as “positive and constructive.”
Some officials view this as a step toward reconsidering Sudan’s suspended membership in the African Union.
In its statement, the Sudanese government confirmed its agreement with the priorities set by the Council, including implementing the Jeddah Declaration of Principles, which calls for vacating civilian homes, facilitating humanitarian aid, and demanding that the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) immediately lift the siege on El Fasher. The Council also condemned atrocities committed by the RSF against civilians.
Sudan praised the Council’s reception of its roadmap to resolve the crisis and the decision to continue the African Union’s positive engagement with Sudan, including reopening its office in the new administrative capital, Port Sudan.
