The circle of confrontations between the Sudanese army and the Rapid Support Forces has widened in the capital city of Khartoum, involving heavy and light weapons, as well as artillery shelling, leading to the destruction of strategic facilities, including the Africa International University.
Sudanese media outlets have published images showing extensive destruction that has altered the landscape of the Sudanese Presidential Palace, as the armed conflicts between the army and the Rapid Support Forces entered their 114th day.
The armed clashes have also spread to the southern areas of Khartoum, particularly around the “Armored Corps” and the surrounding neighborhoods.
According to witnesses, neighborhoods such as “Ash Shajara,” “As Sahafah,” “Jabra,” “Al Rimala,” “Al Kalakla,” and “Gaza,” among others in the southern part of Khartoum, have been directly affected by the ongoing violence, forcing civilians to leave their homes as the area has become a war zone and unsafe.
The Rapid Support Forces have been attempting to gain control over the “Armored Corps” area since the outbreak of the conflict in mid-April last year, due to its strategic importance in the region.
Witnesses also reported intense clashes with heavy and light weapons in Bahri, north of Khartoum, causing flames and smoke to rise.
In response to the escalating situation, the Rapid Support Forces have deployed military personnel and combat vehicles in the circular road of East Nile Locality.
On social media platforms, activists have shared images displaying the immense destruction in the “Presidential Palace” building in the heart of Khartoum, resulting from indiscriminate bombing and ongoing confrontations between the Sudanese army and the Rapid Support Forces in the vicinity of the area.
