During his participation in the ministerial meeting of the Non-Aligned Movement in Baku, Azerbaijan, Ali Al-Sadiq, the Sudanese Minister of Foreign Affairs, met with his Iranian counterpart, Hussein Amir Abdollahian.
Both parties discussed the possibility of restoring relations between the two countries in the near future, which would be mutually beneficial. They also emphasized the importance of reinstating Sudanese-Iranian relations to their previous state, enabling both countries to capitalize on opportunities for cooperation in various fields.
Mr. Al-Sadiq expressed his appreciation for the humanitarian assistance provided by the Iranian Red Crescent to Sudan during the current crisis.
He also congratulated his Iranian counterpart on the restoration of diplomatic relations between Iran and Saudi Arabia, a development that is expected to enhance security and stability in the region and the Muslim world.
During the meeting, Mr. Al-Sadiq discussed the internal developments in Sudan, affirming that the armed forces are capable of quelling the rebellion within a short period. However, the military’s current delay in achieving a decisive victory is due to the rebels’ presence within government facilities and civilian homes. The Sudanese army is reluctant to adopt a scorched-earth policy by demolishing buildings where rebels are hiding.
In response, the Iranian minister expressed deep regret over the situation in Sudan, emphasizing that the Iranian government considers it an internal matter and that the solution should be Sudanese without any external interference. He added that Sudan has historically played a pivotal role in supporting the issues of the Islamic world and expressed hopes for the swift return of stability to the country.
