The city of El Fasher in Darfur, western Sudan, is witnessing its fiercest battles yet after the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) launched a major offensive, breaking through a months-long siege.
Witnesses report heavy street fighting as RSF militants attacked from three directions, advancing towards residential areas near the army’s 6th Infantry Division headquarters.
Videos suggest significant gains for the RSF, while the Sudanese army, alongside allied factions and civilians, claims to have repelled the assault, killing hundreds of RSF fighters.
The ongoing conflict has turned El Fasher into a key battleground, as it remains the last army stronghold in Darfur.
Darfur’s governor, Minni Arko Minnawi, affirmed that the city is “defending itself” against RSF forces, led by Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo, known as “Hemedti.”
