South Korea’s Foreign Minister, Park Jin, has affirmed the nation’s commitment to continue providing financial assistance to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) to better support Palestinian refugees.

Minister Park made these statements ahead of his meeting with Philippe Lazzarini, the Commissioner-General of UNRWA for Palestinian Refugees in the Near East, at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Seoul.

South Korea is set to become a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council for two years starting next year, according to the South Korean news agency Yonhap.

Park stated, “South Korea will assume its seat on the United Nations Security Council from next year for a two-year term.” He added, “As a member of the UN Security Council, we are committed to playing a constructive role on the Palestinian issue.”

Furthermore, South Korea’s Foreign Minister emphasized their commitment to increasing financial contributions to UNRWA to enhance the livelihoods of Palestinian refugees.

Philippe Lazzarini stressed the importance of his agency’s partnership with Seoul in addressing the Palestinian issue.

He also called for attention and support for Palestinian refugees who have been waiting for a fair and lasting political solution for an extended period.
