The Somali army initiated a military operation on Wednesday aimed at bolstering security and stability in areas bordering the Shabelle and Galgadud provinces in the south and central regions of the country.
According to the Somali News Agency, the military operation was conducted by Somali commando forces in the areas of Darnaim, Alkauther, and Adaadi, along with other areas along the borders of the two provinces.
Colonel Hassan Adam Ahmed, the operation’s commander, stated that “the extremist militias are causing suffering to citizens during the holy month of Ramadan by imposing compulsory payments known as zakat.”
