Snapchat has announced a groundbreaking update that integrates ChatGPT into its AR lenses, unveiled at the annual Lens Fest event for developers. This exciting development includes a new beta version of Lens Studio, empowering developers to create filters using ChatGPT technology.

According to reports from TechCrunch and The Verge, one of the notable features of this update is a solar system-themed filter. When a user asks, “How far is Neptune?” the lens quickly provides an answer. This innovation is just one example of how the new feature can be used for creating quizzes or random selection tools.

OpenAI’s ChatGPT, which already powers another feature called My AI, has expanded its reach within Snapchat. Initially an exclusive feature for Snapchat Plus subscribers, My AI has been made free for all users. This chat program allows users to converse as if they were messaging a friend, enhancing user interaction with AI technology.

Snapchat’s move reflects a broader trend of AI-driven creation tools across platforms. Major players like YouTube, Meta, and TikTok have announced features such as AI-based photo editing and filters. Similarly, Meta’s AI chatbots, launched in September 2019, feature celebrities like MrBeast and Kendall Jenner as faces of AI personalities.

Furthermore, Snapchat has announced that lens developers will now be able to use a new 3D face mask generator powered by AI. This tool will enable the creation of sophisticated, AI-supported face lenses. In addition to this, the new developer tools will allow for collaborative efforts, enabling multiple people to work on projects simultaneously.

Snapchat’s integration of ChatGPT into its AR lens technology signifies a significant step forward in the intersection of social media and AI. It demonstrates how platforms are constantly evolving to incorporate advanced technologies, offering users more engaging and interactive experiences. This development not only enhances the creative possibilities for Snapchat lenses but also sets a new benchmark for AI integration in social media platforms, paving the way for future innovations in this exciting field.
