Saudi Arabia and the United States announced the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on Saturday. This MOU seeks to establish transcontinental green transit corridors, leveraging Saudi Arabia’s strategic location connecting Asia and Europe.

The ambitious project is centered around streamlining the transmission of renewable electricity and clean hydrogen through cables and pipelines. Furthermore, it envisages the creation of railway lines, according to the Saudi Press Agency (SPA).

Beyond merely transforming energy logistics, the initiative has broader objectives. It aims to fortify energy security and amplify efforts towards developing clean energy sources. An added dimension is the focus on digital economy enhancement by facilitating the digital transfer of data via optical fiber cables. The project is also predicted to stimulate trade by increasing the flow of goods, connecting railways, and linking ports.

Saudi Arabia has expressed its gratitude towards the U.S. for its pivotal role in supporting and easing the negotiations to initiate and implement this protocol. The goal is to extend this collaboration to encompass nations that are strategically located along these green transit corridors.

The negotiation efforts are being conducted concurrently by Egypt and Qatar, with Israel expressing optimism that a successful outcome may emerge from either of the two channels. The report suggests that the completion of such a deal will require some time, but notes that expedited progress could occur if Hamas demonstrates increased flexibility. Anticipating further developments, the War Cabinet is slated to convene on Sunday to deliberate on the prospect of a prisoner exchange. Additionally, the meeting will address considerations regarding the post-war scenario. Kan 11 News reports that the War Cabinet has granted Mossad chief David Barnea the approval to proceed with the Qatari proposal. This proposal entails the release of numerous hostages in exchange for a substantial hiatus from hostilities, although not a permanent ceasefire.
