The Confederation of African Football (CAF) and the Saudi Arabian Football Federation have announced that Saudi Arabia will host this year’s African Super Cup. The highly-anticipated match between Egypt’s Al Ahly and Algeria’s USM Alger is scheduled to take place on September 15.
Al Ahly, the reigning champions of the CAF Champions League, will be pitted against USM Alger, the winners of the CAF Confederation Cup, in what promises to be an exciting showdown. The match is slated to occur in Taif City, specifically at the King Fahd Stadium, according to an official announcement from CAF’s website this past Saturday.
Veron Mosengo-Omba, the Secretary-General of CAF, expressed excitement about the collaboration. “We’re thrilled to bring the TotalEnergies African Super Cup to a new region in Saudi Arabia, a country making significant strides in global football,” he said. He also added that “African football ranks among the best globally, and it’s fitting that at a time when many international stars are moving to Saudi Arabia, African football also becomes part of this movement. On behalf of CAF President Dr. Patrice Motsepe, I’d like to thank the Saudi football community for their cooperation and look forward to an electrifying Super Cup.”
Ibrahim Al-Qassim, the Secretary-General of the Saudi Arabian Football Federation, echoed the sentiments. “Our collaboration with CAF to host this event embodies our commitment to partnering with the African Federation in hosting events and organizing matches in line with our existing partnership agreement. This event marks another milestone in our ongoing cooperation. On behalf of Saudi Federation President Yasser Al-Mishal, we thank CAF for this opportunity and look forward to a spectacular match for all participants.”
