In a significant crackdown on drug smuggling networks, Saudi Arabian authorities have successfully intercepted a smuggling attempt of over 2.4 million amphetamine tablets, concealed within a shipment of fertilizer at the Jeddah Islamic Port.
The official spokesperson for the General Directorate for Drug Control, Marwan Al-Hazmi, stated, “Our continuous security monitoring of drug smuggling and distribution networks, aiming to safeguard the kingdom and its youth, has resulted in thwarting the smuggling of 2,465,000 amphetamine tablets hidden in an agricultural fertilizer shipment through the Jeddah Islamic Port.”
Al-Hazmi further elaborated that “in coordination with the Zakat, Tax, and Customs Authority, the recipients of the shipment were apprehended in the regions of Mecca, Riyadh, and Eastern Province.
The detainees include a Syrian national resident, two displaced expatriates, and two citizens. The suspects have been arrested, preliminary legal procedures have been initiated against them, and they have been referred to the Public Prosecution.”
The security forces have urged both citizens and residents to report any information related to drug smuggling or distribution activities.
Reports can be made through designated phone numbers and email addresses, ensuring that all tips will be treated with the utmost confidentiality.
This operation highlights Saudi Arabia’s relentless efforts to combat drug smuggling and protect its citizens from the dangers of illicit substances, demonstrating the kingdom’s stringent measures against those compromising its security and public health.
