During the 57th session of the Human Rights Council, Saudi Arabia reiterated its steadfast support for Sudan and its people. This commitment was voiced by the Kingdom’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations and International Organizations in Geneva, Ambassador Abdulmohsen bin Majed bin Khuthaila, during the interactive dialogue on the oral update by the Independent International Fact-Finding Mission on Sudan.
Saudi Arabia emphasized the crucial need to protect Sudan and its people from further devastation and the worsening humanitarian situation. The Kingdom stressed the importance of protecting civilians and relief workers, as well as ensuring the safety of humanitarian corridors for the delivery of essential aid.
Furthermore, Saudi Arabia urged prioritizing the interests of the Sudanese people and halting the conflict to safeguard state institutions and steer Sudan towards safety. The Kingdom highlighted its hosting of the Jeddah talks between the conflicting parties in Sudan, underscoring its commitment to achieving a cessation of conflict through political dialogue that serves the interests of the Sudanese people.
The Kingdom also called on the international community to uphold its commitment to protecting Sudan and its people, and to work towards restoring security and stability in the country. Saudi Arabia welcomed international efforts and initiatives aimed at achieving peace in Sudan.
In a show of solidarity, Saudi Arabia expressed its deepest condolences to the Sudanese people following the collapse of a dam in the Red Sea state, which resulted in significant human losses. The Kingdom prayed for divine protection for Sudan and its people from all harm.
