On Monday, Saudi Arabia’s Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, who also serves as the Prime Minister, announced the launch of the World Cup of Esports, the world’s largest event of its kind. Starting from the summer of 2024, this event will be held annually in Riyadh.
The tournament will serve as a significant platform to elevate the gaming and esports sector, which is experiencing rapid growth.
It will further solidify Saudi Arabia’s position as a leading destination for premier international sports competitions.
Additionally, the Crown Prince unveiled the establishment of the World Cup of Esports Foundation, a non-profit organization responsible for organizing the tournament.
This foundation will act as the driving force to usher this sector into a new era of collaboration among all stakeholders and entities within the gaming and esports ecosystem, harnessing its true potential and enhancing the growth and sustainability of the sector.
This announcement was made during the “New Global Sports Conference,” hosted by Saudi Arabia.
Prince Mohammed stated, “The World Cup of Esports is the next natural step in our journey to make the Kingdom the world’s top center for gaming and esports.
It will offer an unparalleled experience that surpasses what is conventionally expected in the sector.”
He emphasized that the tournament would contribute to advancing their commitment to achieving the goals of Vision 2030, including economic diversification, boosting the tourism sector, and providing job opportunities across various sectors while delivering world-class entertainment to citizens, residents, and visitors alike.
The World Cup of Esports Foundation will reveal more details related to the tournament and participation mechanisms early next year.
