Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan and Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani held discussions on Thursday addressing the bilateral relationship between their countries and regional developments.
According to a statement from al-Sudani’s office, the meeting focused on enhancing Saudi-Iraqi relations and exploring opportunities for growth in political and economic sectors.
Both parties discussed strengthening fruitful partnerships and activating the Saudi-Iraqi Coordination Council to advance mutual benefits and shared interests.
The discussions also covered critical regional issues, including the ongoing conflict in Gaza.
The Iraqi statement highlighted the need for continued joint efforts and coordination among Arab and international communities to halt the violence and urged the global community to play an active role in preventing the ongoing humanitarian crisis.
The Saudi Press Agency (SPA) reported that Prince Faisal conveyed the greetings of King Salman bin Abdulaziz and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, along with their wishes for continued progress for the Iraqi government and people.
Saudi Arabia and Iraq have been working to enhance their bilateral ties in recent years, focusing on economic cooperation and political dialogue.
The Saudi-Iraqi Coordination Council, established in 2017, aims to address mutual interests and promote collaboration in various fields.
Regional tensions, particularly the prolonged conflict in Gaza, have influenced the diplomatic discussions between the two nations. Saudi Arabia, a leading regional power, and Iraq, strategically located in the Middle East, both play significant roles in addressing regional conflicts and promoting stability.
The collaboration between Saudi Arabia and Iraq underscores a broader effort to strengthen Arab unity and address critical geopolitical challenges affecting the Middle East.
