Saudi Arabia has reaffirmed its commitment to agricultural development and food security, focusing on developing robust food security strategies and ensuring the sustainability of the agricultural sector locally, regionally, and internationally.

According to the Saudi Press Agency (SPA), this commitment was highlighted during the extraordinary virtual meeting of the Committee of Agriculture and Food Security Undersecretaries of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC).

The meeting was chaired by Eng. Ahmed bin Saleh Al-Ayada, Undersecretary of the Saudi Ministry of Environment, Water, and Agriculture.

Al-Ayada emphasized Saudi Arabia’s dedication to achieving agricultural and food sustainability and outlined the main directions for realizing the goals of the food security strategy.

The meeting, led by Khalid Ali Al-Sunaidi, Assistant Secretary-General for Economic and Development Affairs at the GCC Secretariat, reviewed efforts to prepare a food security strategy for the GCC countries.

The technical team responsible for the strategy, chaired by Saudi Arabia, presented their progress and findings.

Mohammed bin Ibrahim Al-Fawzan, Deputy Governor of the Saudi General Authority for Food Security and head of the technical team, provided an assessment of the current food security status in the GCC countries.

He also discussed benchmark comparisons of regional cooperation efforts in food security, summarized key findings, and conducted a SWOT analysis (Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, and Threats). The discussion included ways to enhance the GCC’s food security strategy.

Saudi Almarai Company recently completed its acquisition of Etmam Logistics Co. for SAR 182 million. This strategic move is set to enhance Almarai’s capabilities in distributing a broad spectrum of frozen products across the Kingdom.
